We love our pets, and our busy lives can keep us apart when we want to stay close to our furry friends at home!
Petcube was Founded in late 2012 and is based in San Francisco, USA. They have grown to become a global leader in Connected Pet, which is defined at the intersection of Connected Home and pet care. I guess its another step towards my personal pet hate of SmartHomes (although I do think these are pretty cool!!)
Their first product, The Petcube Camera, is an interactive pet camera that lets pet owners see, talk to and play with their pets remotely from their smartphone no matter where they are in the world. All you need is an Internet connection.
Petcube is dedicated to connecting people with their pets through technology. Winner of several awards, including a 2017 Edison Award for innovation and 2017 London Wearable Technology Show Smart Home Award.

How did you come up with the idea for this product?
Back in 2012, Alex Neskin, Petcube CTO and founder, faced a problem with his pet Chihuahua Rocky who hated being alone. Every time Alex left for work, his dog would scratch and bark so loudly that the neighbours even threatened to call the police. He needed to find a solution. So, Alex created an Arduino-based robot that consisted of a web camera and a remote controlled laser pointer. He was able to play with Rocky through a web interface and distract him from barking. That is how the first prototype of Petcube Camera was born. Soon Alex’s digital agency colleagues Andrey Klen and Yaroslav Azhnuyk joined him to found Petcube. Ever since day one, Petcube has been dedicated to improving the lives of pet parents and their pets through technology.
What makes your product special?
Petcube Play creates a rewarding experience for pets and their owners, with a high level of interactivity and fun. All our products go beyond just being a toy; they solve key problems for pets and their owners: separation anxiety, pet obesity, behaviour correction, and training. In this way, Petcube products deepen pet parents’ relationships with their furry loved ones at a time when it was previously impossible, when they’re away from home. At Petcube, we also firmly believe products for pets should be designed with as much care as products for people.
What has been the best part of your experience?
Petcube’s products have not only connected people better to their pets, but inspired new forms of human-pet interactions. This has made Petcube a global leader in the Connected Pet space, defined at the intersection of Connected Home and pet care. At the same time, in addition to popular social networks, Petcube cameras are integrated into the growing Petcube user network, creating a community of like minded, modern pet lovers that share experiences and their favourite moments.
They also have one that lets you release treats to your pet remotely, which I shall write about in a separate post – but you can find out more clicking the logo below.
